People ask us everyday how we make the products we sell like our balm, body oil, tinctures, or capsules and are amazed at how effective they are. The simple answer? Through a Whole Plant Infusion process that starts with the plants grown by local farmers that are used in our lipid infusion process that captures the plant’s natural phytonutrients, terpenes, and full spectrum of cannabinoids. Although our process is all natural and solventless, it is anything but simple. In this article you will learn the science and rigor behind every product that is made at Papa & Barkley and how it goes from farm to shelf. Buckle in, you are in for a ride!

From Farm to Shelf

Papa & Barkley is committed to a whole-plant infusion process for all our products. Our process starts with all-natural, sun-grown cannabis plants grown by U.S. farmers. The whole plant is soaked in our base oils to get the full spectrum of the plant’s biology; we do this without chemicals or solvents because we want to make the cleanest and healthiest products possible. Our formulations are all-natural, completely solventless, and chemical-free. Our techniques are gentle and maintain all of the original terpenes, cannabinoids and phytonutrients present in the cannabis plant.

It All Starts at the Farm

It all starts at the farm. Without flower, there can be no Papa & Barkley. Without farmers, there can be no flower. But it goes further than just sourcing and purchasing the cannabis that goes into our products. We believe that in order to give our customers the best product available that we must be conscientious about the input materials. This means before we ever endeavor to make that balm, tincture, or capsule that we source only the best cannabis available from the best farmers we can partner with.

That is why we have partnered with 150 farms and local farmers throughout the Emerald Triangle (Humboldt, Mendocino, and Trinity Counties). These partnerships are not only crucial because they provide us with the best cannabis available, but because many of these farmers have been perfecting their cultivation methods for generations. We rely on their expertise and experience to provide us with quality cannabis that is grown through organic and regenerative practices. Supporting local farms and farmers is important to us because their flowers are what make our products so special and effective.

Our commitment and connection to the community of farmers we partner with is not based on profit but rather because we believe it’s important that we both sustainably grow and thrive together. We support local growers who focus on unique strains and sustainable farming practices, and when you purchase a Papa & Barkley product, so do you!

The Infusion Process

Our main method of extraction is our proprietary lipid infusion technique, which is used in developing all our topical and tincture products. This is an all-natural and solventless process, meaning chemicals are never introduced. In this process, we soak our premium cannabis plants in coconut oil or MCT oil, then add heat and pressure. During this cooking process, the cannabinoids are infused into the base. What makes this process so special is that all of the original terpenes, cannabinoids, and phytonutrients are preserved. The resulting oils are blended to achieve different ratios. While this process is more difficult, we believe it’s worth the extra effort because it results in better quality, more potent, cleaner and efficacious end products for people like you and I.

Fresh-Pressed Rosin

Our rosin process involves pressing cannabis between two heated metal plates to produce an all-natural extract; this concentrated oil has a similar consistency to tree sap. The resulting extract is typically very potent (over 60% cannabinoids) and, again, we maintain the plant’s full cannabinoid and terpene profile. All our products are earthy in color because the chlorophyll and valuable phytonutrients and natural plant matter still exists when the process is complete

We Triple-Test Throughout the Process

We hold ourselves to a higher standard because of our commitment and focus first and foremost on quality and efficacy. Papa & Barkley uses its own triple-testing system, which is more rigorous than the required testing procedure, to test for 66 pesticides, 5 microbrials, and 10 residual solvents. They are tested at each stage of the production process; we test the plants, base-infused oil, and finished goods. Plant input is tested for cannabinoid and terpene content, pesticides, and heavy metals. Infused oil is tested a second time for quality assurance on cannabinoid and terpene profile. Blended finished goods are tested for a third time, ensuring final consistency of cannabinoid content.

Thus ensuring our formulations have a full spectrum of cannabinoids, are consistent and triple-tested from soil to shelf, guaranteeing absolutely no mold, mildew, pesticides, or heavy metals.

Why a Full Spectrum of Cannabinoids is Important

Each person’s body and endocannabinoid system is unique, with different needs. Cannabis is not one-size-fits-all. We believe that optimal therapeutic efficacy requires the use of both CBD, the non-intoxicating compound in cannabis, and THC, its psychoactive component. The combination of these two critical compounds is key for maximizing health benefits.

Our Whole Plant infusion process allows us to keep the plant intact and use all the cannabinoids present for our products without the use of chemicals or solvents. We firmly believe the plant has the most healing potential when it’s kept intact. This whole plant philosophy allows us to create cannabis derived products with a true full spectrum of cannabinoids, ensuring the maximum benefit to our customers: a quality product that is clean and potent, promotes the Entourage Effect within the endocannabinoid system, and provides better anti-inflammatory properties.

Improving Lives

Our process is the cornerstone of our company, to make products that we trust to share with our family and loved ones. We believe whole-heartedly that to be the best in class cannabis company, we have to provide the best in class products.

Our award-winning Releaf Balm, tinctures, transdermal patches, topicals and capsules are made to make people’s lives better and help provide relief from what ails them. We believe that cannabis has incredible power and potential, and when we harness the plant with all natural processes and formulate them with natural and organic ingredients the results are life changing.

If you, or a loved one are living with chronic pain , need daily pain relief, or are recovering from an injury then our products are here to help improve your life. Our products are clean, effective, and offer a true full spectrum of cannabinoids to help combat pain and inflammation. Our whole plant philosophy and continued commitment to providing safe access to cannabis has allowed Papa & Barkley to help thousands of customers find relief from pain.
