I have practiced microdosing with cannabis for years, predominantly with tinctures and flower. My experience with tinctures has been the most successful, and has stayed with me on a daily basis since my mid-twenties. Microdosing has recently become more popular as a solid introduction for first-time experiences of cannabis wellness. If you read my previous article about why THC and CBD tinctures.

What is Microdosing & How Does it Work?

A microdose is a small, beginning dose that helps to prepare your
Endocannabinoid system
to become regularly saturated with cannabinoids. The ECS has two main receptors (CB1 & CB2) that cannabinoids interact with when dosing. As THC and CBD enter your body, they interact directly with the receptors in different ways. Microdosing THC can give you stress reduction, pain relief, and improved sleep without the immediate effects of psychoactivity. Microdosing with CBD, allows you to store extra in your fat cells so that it can act on the precursors for pain and inflammation.

For people who are trying tinctures for the first time It is best to start slow with a low dose to see how your body responds, before working up to a larger dose. Microdosing requires that you consistently dose with cannabis, meaning you take the same dose the same number of times each day for several days.

Why Microdose with Tinctures?

Microdosing with tinctures is the easiest method to get started. Tinctures are the fastest way to feel the benefits of cannabinoids because the primary delivery method is by ingestion sublingually. They are also discreet and easy to take with you throughout your day. This is useful if you keep a busy schedule and need on the go relief. Tinctures, like Papa & Barkley’s Releaf Tinctures or Releaf Drops work on the whole body and are useful for a variety of needs including acute pain relief, natural stress reduction, and aiding in healthier sleep. Onset is typically felt throughout the entire body within fifteen minutes, and your dosage can be customized by practicing microdosing. This makes tinctures very easy to personalize and perfect for those who need an introduction to cannabis wellness.

How to Microdose with a THC Rich Tincture

  1. Grab your 30ml bottle of 1:3 Releaf Tincture
  2. Measure out .25ml (about 9-10 drops or ¼ of a dropper)
  3. Take sublingually and hold there for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  4. Wait for 20-30 minutes and pay attention to your body.

That last step is crucial! Because the intent is to experience a diminished but still noticeable version of the benefits of THC, you have to listen to your body. The benefit of microdosing THC is that you get stress reduction, pain relief, and improved sleep without the immediate effects of psychoactivity.

Pro-tip: if you prefer to mix your dose with a beverage I recommend dosing in the morning with a glass of OJ or your coffee.

How to Microdose with a CBD Rich Tincture

  2. Measure out .25ml (about 9-10 drops or ¼ of a dropper)
  3. Take sublingually and hold there for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  4. Pay attention to your body and repeat if needed.

As before, here’s another pro-tip: if you prefer your dose in a beverage, I like to take CBD in a nice cup of chamomile tea before bed. By the time I finish the cup the CBD has had the chance to take effect and I’m ready to nod off.

Don’t Be Afraid to Experiment!

Less is more with microdosing, whether it is THC or CBD. Sometimes you’ll need a little more depending on how you are feeling that day. But consistency is key, so I recommend trying your first dose and sticking with it for at least three days. If you haven’t noticed any effects yet, it is time to increase your dose a little more— dose with 0.5ml (about 15-20 drops) for the next three to four days. Every person is different, just as every body is different. Experiment with times of day and eventually you’ll find the combination that works for you. Also, don’t skip doses because microdosing works on the principle that your Endocannabinoid system should be saturated with cannabinoids regularly to actively work. Skipping a day will not yield as much results as taking regular doses for three days in a row. Plus, you can always take more if and when needed.

Just remember, every person is different, just as every body is different. Experiment with times of day and eventually you’ll find the combination that works for you.
