History has numerous examples of cannabis use going way back. In the 2nd century, the Chinese surgeon Hua Tuo is credited with being the first person to use cannabis as an anesthetic. He dried the plant material and mixed it with wine prior to administration before surgery.

Through details captured in hieroglyphics, historians have noted that ancient Egyptians also used cannabis.

In India, Bhang, a drink made with raw cannabis is considered to be an overall wellness beverage.

Skip forward a few hundred years – in the United States, cannabis tinctures were considered to be an everyday health aid and were widely available at pharmacies until the 1930’s when the plant became criminalized as a part of prohibition, and the healing potential of the plant was largely forgotten.

Today cannabis is making a comeback and has tremendous medicinal value.
